I've been back from Thailand for nearly a month now, and sadly, my Koh Samui 'n' Sisley sun tan is beginning to fade. I've gone from George Hamilton to the Milky Bar Kid in 4 short weeks and it is so NOT a good look for a man who likes to be dusky, dark and delicious all year round.
Pretty much everything about me is 100% genuine, the real mccoy (except my toenails, but I'd put you off your tea if I told you about them). But the one thing I will fake is my tan. The fake tans of today are a world apart from the self tanners of yesteryear. New formulations and advances in developing times mean that we can go from peelie wallie, to beach bum in a matter of a couple of hours, and this week I had the pleasure of reviewing a variety of different tanners for my Sunday Mail column. Look out for it appearing soon.
Sadly, my column was filed before I received details about a hot new kid on the block in the fake tan world. Famous Dave's Tanners have a cult following in the States, and I've been a fan for a wee while too. The latest addition to the range is the Tanning Mousse - Gold Edition. The beauty of this new product is that it has no added fragrance and it's boosted up the number of anti-oxidants and anti-ageing ingredients. So not only does will you have a golden, luxurious, easy to apply tan, but with aloe vera, sesame and jojoba, it's great for the condition of your skin too.
Now I have friends who have a 'fake tan' wardrobe - that is, clothes they wear while they 'baste' in their self tan. These clothes carry a stench like burnt toast and almonds, and have a colour akin to Ronseal wood varnish but my friends insist on wearing them to save their bedsheets from the stains of fake tan. It's here where Famous Dave really scores highly. Not only do the products dry on the skin almost immediately meaning you can dress within minutes, and are fragrance free, but the formula will not rub out onto sheets or clothing either. So a massive bonus for those of you out there who sleep in a sheet that could pass for the shroud of Turin and who leave a vapour trail behind them after a basting session.
Famous Dave's Tanning Mousse Gold Edition is £25.99, from www.famousdaves.co.uk, all major Debenhams stores or by calling 02380 011637.
